Crystalens

The Crystalens® procedure offers never before- seen improvements in cataract microsurgery.

Crystalens is a remarkable technology that allows the doctors of Campbell, Cunningham & Taylor to treat your cataract condition and improve or eliminate the typical impairments of cataracts. What’s more, the lens is also designed to reduce or possibly eliminate your dependence on glasses for distance, intermediate and near, including reader’s vision.

Studies have shown that lens replacement surgery using Crystalens is remarkably successful. Crystalens can change the way you view the world by giving you the very best chance of being as independent of glasses as possible. The doctors of Campbell, Cunningham & Taylor are proud to have been among the very first surgeons in the Southeast to have implanted Crystalens. Let us show you how this remarkable technology can help you today.

Technology That Works
Naturally With Your Eyes

Aging lenses inside the eyes can cause important muscles to literally “give up” in their efforts to focus, refocus and continually adjust to what is in front of you. Crystalens® is an intraocular lens implant that can help deliver vision that is once again, clear at a variety of distances.

The key to Crystalens is a system that uses hinges to allow the intraocular lens to move and seamlessly focus on objects that are near, far and all distances in between. The Crystalens is designed to help patients rediscover a beautiful, cloud-free world.

A Closer Look At Crystalens

Crystalens
The FDA-approved Crystalens is an implant developed for use in cataract surgery. The focusing system of the human eye was the inspiration for the design of the Crystalens. Like the lenses you were born with, Crystalens uses the muscles of the eye to help you focus seamlessly at a variety of distances. This is possible because of the unique hinged design of the lens which allows it to arch slightly in response to the particular focusing demands of your eye. With this new technology, the quality of your vision can be significantly better than vision provided by wearing bifocals or trifocals. Crystalens can eliminate the need to tilt your head to see through the reading portion of your glasses.

Your Crystalens Procedure

Crystalens
Many patients have questions about what goes into a cataract procedure. The doctors of Campbell, Cunningham & Taylor perform the surgery at the Eye Surgery Center of East Tennessee on an outpatient basis. First, the eye will be anesthetized, typically using eye drops. After a small incision is made at the edge of the cornea, the lens of the eye is removed using an ultrasonic probe. Then, the Crystalens is implanted. It generally takes only 15 minutes or less for the procedure to be completed.

Rapid Recovery Followed By A Lifetime Of Benefits

Once your surgery is completed, you will be instructed to use additional drops in your eye to prevent infection and reduce inflammation. Because the incision is so small, it quickly heals on its own, often without the need for stitches. Afterward, your doctor may direct you to strengthen the focusing muscle of the eye through a series of simple vision of your surgeon in order to make sure you get the treatment that is best for you.

For most patients, daily activities, such as driving, reading and exercise can be resumed within a day or two after your surgery.
