Bob Colloredo will never forget the day he had LASIK. Not because it was broadcast live for nearly a million television viewers to see, though it was, but because afterward everything looked great. “The next morning I went to put on my glasses, but I didn’t need them anymore. I had 20/20 vision,” he recalls.

As LASIK was beginning to grow in popularity, a local television station approached Bob about having it performed live during a newscast. He agreed. “I was already hearing the buzz about LASIK and was considering it,” he explains. “I knew that the doctors at the Campbell Cunningham Laser Center would be able to do the procedure right.” And once more, this was the very first live LASIK procedure broadcast in the United States.

“The act of having LASIK is simple. It doesn’t take a long time, and there is no pain involved,” Bob says. “So, you don’t really appreciate it until you see it with the amount of tests the doctors do in preparation. They want to determine the health of the eye, how stable your vision is, and how much laser treatment you are going to need.”

“The doctors and staff of the Campbell Cunningham Laser Center took the time to get to know me, to understand my vision, and to decide the best route for me,” he continues. “On the day of my procedure I was nervous, but as soon as I walked into their office they took over. Before I knew it, I was done.”

The next morning when Bob got ready for his post-op exam, he didn’t trust that he could drive to their office without his glasses. “I never really expected that I wouldn’t need my glasses at all, but everything looked great,” he remembers. “Now, eleven years later I still wear no glasses. It’s remarkable.”

Above all, Bob was most impressed with the doctors and staff of the Campbell Cunningham Laser Center. “They live in Knoxville and are part of this community,” he says. “To this day, if I run into one of the doctors, he will stop and talk with me. They are interested in my overall well-being. It’s important to have an ophthalmologist who knows me for more than LASIK.”
