The day after Gina Haas had Custom LASIK with the Campbell Cunningham Laser Center, she woke to find she could read the clock across the room. “This was the first time in my entire life I could remember doing that,” she says. Since kindergarten, Gina had worn glasses to correct her extremely near-sighted vision.

When LASIK first came about in the early 1980s, Gina began to investigate it. “When you live your life without being able to see clearly and then something gives you hope, you sure find out what it is,” she explains. “You may not do it right away, but you start to see if it’s a possibility.”

Five years ago Dr. Cunningham, of Campbell, Cunningham, and Taylor, appeared on a local morning television show Gina hosted. She had already visited other vision centers in town and done extensive research. “I settled on the Campbell Cunningham Laser Center after my initial visit,” she recalls. “When I sat down with them in the pre-surgery visit, their requirements were much stricter than other places.”

Gina had damaged her eyes wearing contacts, so before the surgery Dr. Cunningham said that she had to wear glasses for 30 days. “That was the deal,” Gina says. “Another doctor told me he could do it the next week.”

The staff educated Gina regarding what she could expect from the time she walked into the door to the time she left after the surgery. “I knew everything that would happen from A to Z,” she recalls. “The staff was wonderful and met all of my needs.”

When Gina went in for her follow-up the days after surgery, her vision was 20/20. “I didn’t know what that meant,” she admits. “I’d never experienced it. Even with glasses and contacts I didn’t see 20/20.”

“I had never seen anything without aid,” she remembers. “The day I realized I didn’t need my glasses anymore was a big day for me. I could donate them to someone else. The feeling of fear when you wake and cannot see was gone for me.” Now Gina can enjoy perfect vision as she engages her very active life.

“It’s well worth it,” Gina concludes. “I recommend the Campbell Cunningham Laser Center to anyone and to everyone. I wouldn’t recommend anyone else.”
